6 Reasons Why Social Media is Here to Stay
Most businesses have caught on by now to the fact that social media can be hugely beneficial to any company, no matter how big or small. All of the content is 100% user-generated, the platforms leverage social interaction and networking and pretty much everyone is using it.
Well we all know what it can do for our businesses, but is social media just a passing phase, or is it here to stay? We think you should hold on to your hats, because social media is about to give you a run for your money.
Social Media Sites Have Become the Most Popular Internet Activity in the World
Although new, checking social media pages and participating in social networking has overtaken watching dirty videos online to become the most popular Internet activity in the world. Think about it – when you wake up in the morning, or get to your desk for the first time at work, what do you do? Do you log in to your Facebook account to check your news feed?
Do you check your favorite blogs? Do you read the Tweets that came in overnight? These are all powerful social media platforms that people have borderline become addicted to, making it a popular activity for all, and we don’t see people breaking these habits anytime soon.
It’s Easy to Stay Connected
Believe it or not, there is a growing use of sites like Facebook in the age of “moms,” or women who have children, most of whom have gone off to college or already moved away from home. It’s now easier than ever for a mom missing her child to log on to Facebook and check up on their child’s life.
It’s a way to stay connected to everyone you know and love, no matter how far away. Why wouldn’t that trend stick around?
It’s Great for Relationships
Again, this is a “believe it or not” type of statistic, but in 2009, 1 in 8 couples who were getting married had met via a social network. That’s because social media transcends age, race, gender and other physical stereotypes and lets people just be themselves. And when a relationship is based on attraction to a personality, that one’s sure to last.
Most Communication Happens Over Social Networks
It’s so much easier to log in to Facebook and send a private message to someone than it is to email them or, God forbid, call them on the phone, right? Well when you communicate via social media, all you have to know is the person’s name. You don’t need to have their phone number or email address, making communication easier than ever over social networks.
In fact, most communication does happen over social media thesedays versus more traditional modes of communication.
It’s A Great Job Tool
Social media makes a great job tool for both employers and employees. Employees can find leads through all of their friends’ posts, or even reach out to a much larger audience than they would normally have access to and request information on job openings.
For employers, you get the chance to “check out” your prospective employees before you ever even decide on hiring them. It’s like a background check without the thorough investigation.
Everyone’s On It
A study done in 2010 showed that, at the time, if the members of Facebook made up a country, it would be the third largest country in the world, behind only China and India. Yes, the Facebook community population is higher than the entire population of the United States.
That means that everyone is using it. And why would a network with that many users ever fade away? Whether you use it or like it or not, social media is definitely here to stay.

Yeah, I don’t see it going away either. Too many people are dependent on it as it is now. As new forms of social media are introduced, it will only escalate.
Not just a tool but I would say that Social media is already part of people’s lives.
I wonder what the figures ar now, you said the study was done in 2010,what size country would we be now collectively? Or should I sy continent?????
I agree with all the above comments – some people are obsessed with Social Media and while I was addicted to FB when it first came about, I have since grown bored with random consistent updates from people I never really associate with anyways….
