Were You Facebooking on Christmas Morning?
Let’s face it, even on a day like Christmas that is supposed to be sacrosanct, Facebook will no doubt be choc-a-block full of users spreading Christmas cheer and sharing information. In fact research indicates that Christmas day could be the busiest of the year on Social Networking sites. What gives?
These are some of the reasons why individuals take time out from their loved ones on Christmas day to sign on.
‘The Feeling of Waking up on Christmas Morning’ Page:
The official Facebook page that claims to capture the excitement of Christmas morning. Users post their thoughts and feelings on the dedicated ‘The Feeling of Waking up on Christmas Morning’ page. Apparently a great way to spread the Christmas cheer amongst friends and family. Personally I prefer dropping in with a present or hearing a voice over the telephone!
Sharing Pictures:
For those of you who have the energy or patience on Christmas morning, I’m sure this is a dandy way to spend an hour or two. You know who you are! I have seen pictures of your Christmas decorations, your presents, your children dressed up as elves and your favourite Christmas jumpers. If you are that way inclined then may I suggest using a webcam that offers software so that you can play around with the image and create cool effects. It might just get your ‘like’ count up!
Christmas Jokes:
Now this is one I don’t mind so much, after all it’s all about the Christmas cheer right? Anything from the traditional cracker one liners to more original home spun gags are alright with me. Just don’t give me anything that’s like reading an essay and you have a winner! I actually condone spending some time online looking for the best Christmas jokes and posting them to your Facebook page so that all your friends can enjoy them too.
Play Games:
I remember vividly on the 1st of January last year logging onto to Facebook for the 1st time in over a week (there were after all festivities to be enjoyed). I had notifications from a number of people who had been online Christmas day. One that stands out in my memory was an invitation to join someone on their quest to rule the mafia world. Really? There’s nothing like a game of mafia wars to prolong that Christmas feeling eh?
What I would do on Facebook Christmas morning:
Try changing some of your Facebook personal information for the festive season. A fun way to snap your buddies out of their Christmas coma.
- Change your birthday to Christmas day (assuming it isn’t that already) and see who catches on first.
- Make a Christmas proposal by changing your status to married and selecting one of your Facebook friends as the lucky one. They will have to confirm the status so in effect they will have to accept or reject your festive proposal.
- Change your contact details to the North Pole or Lapland.
As you may have guessed by now you won’t find me on Facebook Christmas day, I will be found lounging in a comfy chair next to a blazing fire, sipping a cool glass of Baileys after eating way too much in the company of loved ones. Your Facebook friends will still be there when you log back in, it’s the ones you surround yourself with on Christmas day that really count.
