If you’re a coder and you carry your nerd card loud and proud, you need to Get with the Brogram.
The term brogrammer is the mix of “bro” and “programmer” and is reaching new heights of popularity as the Get with the Brogram Facebook page has over 21,000 likes, the thread on Quora called “How does a programmer become a brogrammer?” is followed by over 600 people, and the series of hacker get-togethers in Austin, Texas is gaining more and more followers.
The ultimate primer on brogramming was delivered in epic form during the 2011 Twilio Conference. Rob “Chad” Spectre of Twilio laid down the brogramming steez and the art of building some chill apps, bro.

1. Flowcharts, bro. Always.
2. “I don’t often test my code, but when I do it I prefer to do it in production.” Cowboy up and ship code to the live site.

Rise of Brogramming and How it Has Affected Developer Hiring
According to Businessweek, at a recent Stanford University career fair, Klout tried to attract candidates by posting a sign that read, “Want to bro down and crush code? Klout is hiring.” Also, the company is pretty open about coding sessions that involve shotgunning Pabst as a celebratory ritual.
However, some female developer groups are not impressed. “Anything that encourages the perception of tech as being male-dominated is likely to contribute to this decline, says Sara Chipps, founder of Girl Develop It, a series of software development workshops. “This brogramming thing would definitely turn off a lot of women from working” at startups, says Chipps.
