Losing Our Minds Over Social
Have you ever wondered if be immersed in social media, networking for hours on end might affect your brain? Probably not, at least not in the ways scientists are beginning to understand. New theories suggest being a social guru on the web could be changing your metal faculty.
Facebook, Twitter, even g+ are having profound effects on the ways in which people interact. A sub-cultural effect has taken place, but now researchers are uncovering even more impactful effects. There is evidence to support that social media use causes our brains to “rewire” themselves. Multitasking, focus, a whole range of mental faculties may be being affected. The infographic from Assisted Living Today below, sheds more light on the subject.

As anyone can tell by looking at this data, expecting some effects cognitively from hours milling about the social networks is a “no brainer” – pun intended. Whether or not the “rewiring” of our brains is a good or bad thing, only time will tell. But, it’s certain that attention spans growing shorter, if that is true, cannot be considered remotely positive. We all have enough trouble taking time for one another as it is. Facebook is calling, you know?
I never stopped to think about all this… then again my 5 sec attention span keeps me happily distracted all the time. 😀
Great infographic btw.
Be honest, how many of you out there skimmed this infographic instead of reading it? Point taken.
