Social Media In The Car – The Pros And Cons

If you mention social media whilst driving you will often get strange looks and even the occasional “you are doing something illegal” but this isn’t always the case.

You can stay logged on to both Twitter and Facebook all of the time if you are prepared to pay the right money and get the right vehicle and guess what? It’s all completely legal! Let’s have a look at the pros and cons of friends and fans in the car with you on Twitter and Facebook.

Pimp My Social

The first thing you need to do is get the right car to ensure that your social activity in the car is legal. GM has released a nifty little in car system that will allow your Facebook to tell you exactly what is going on with all of your friends. Similarly you can then record your voice and post it out to all of your friends too, fantastic!

The Pros

If you are really into Facebook and Twitter then the chances are you are currently sneaking your phone out when driving. In most civilised locations around the world, this is strictly illegal and even getting your phone out when stopped at a traffic light is against the law; you will receive a fine and potentially a short ban from driving if you are caught. If you have done it previously and been caught then you could even face a short jail sentence!

The pros of having this would of course be that you can see what is going on with all of your friends and even talk to them via voice control, without doing anything illegal! This is also fantastic for help if you are lost and without a satellite navigation device as you could ask people on Facebook.

There is nothing worse than being stuck in traffic and with this system you can just sit on Facebook and let the time fly by!

The Cons

With this I see there being way too many cons than pros and it starts with the price. The cost to have this put into a car (you need a compatible car too) is not a cheap one and is something like this really worth the cost?

Voice recognition is still very much in its early stages which of course means that you either end up having to use the pre recorded things such as “I am enjoying my day” or you end up saying something like “on the way to apples to go and see a showing” which of course isn’t useful at all!

The other thing to consider is that you are still going to be concentrating on listening to the computer telling you an update or trying to record your own, this means there are still some massive distractions involved! Not being able to concentrate is still likely to end you up in a serious accident!

It is up to you on whether you think having access to social media platforms in your car is actually going to do more harm than good!

Ryan loves his car just the way it is and would certainly be distracted if Facebook was in his car with him! He works with finance lease company Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.

  1. Awsm Post!!…..BTW from where do you get this kinda content..coz i hardly get any gr8 idea like this!!

  2. Great points! I’m actually not with “social-media-in-the-car” thing. I believe we can let a little amount of time fly by without getting access to social media. If the time it takes to travel would be more than 24 hours that’s the time I would start to worry and think about the updates in my Facebook and Twitter. So, unless it’s a very long travel, social media in the car is not necessary.

  3. Good post! Thanks for sharing!

  4. As much as I love being n Facebook and Twitter constantly, I think this is way too much. I like to have a glass of wine as well, but I don’t do it in my car and while driving.

    This should be banned.
